In the most modern amp setting (5150/Soldano?) there is some natural background hiss due to the extreme gain but it's not bad, just noticeable when you're not playing. The amp is very quite, even with the Wampler boosting the signal. maybe some chorus or delay but they are not switchable on the fly so it's a pain to use them unless you want them on all the time. With any appreciable distortion though S/B muddies up the sound too much and should be turned off.Įffects, well I'm not big on using them while practicing, sometimes some reverb. ![]() Can't imagine what it'd be like with the 30W!Ĭleans are very nice in the Fender realm, especially if you turn on the SAG and Bias as it sounds more vintage-like in those modes. This is where the map shines most but I basically have to reserve this for when I won't disturb anyone. In fact at low volume settings it's a tad too much and the tone doesn't balance out with the mid and higher frequencies until you start to turn the power level up. Due to the porting of the cabinet there is quite a bit of low end response on this amp. The distortion behaves like any analog amp and turning down my guitar volume cleans up a dirty signal, it also takes my Wampler Sovereign OD pedal very well and I can boost the input significantly without any issues. The AV15 is SMALL and I mean small (not IDCORE 10 small but not that much bigger) but if I want to play without disturbing anyone I still have to keep the power level control below 2! This with a tiny 8 inch speaker. I have the 15W version for bedroom use and have been using it now for over 2 months and thought I'd pass on my observations so far. They are offered in 15, 30 & 60W versions. I believe these are 2 Fenders, 2 Voxes, 2 Marshalls and 2 more modern amps (likely the 5150 and some Soldano). They are considered modelling amps by some (including VOX marketing) as the amp supposedly models the circuit response of 8 different amplifiers. This power is then sent to a solid state power amp with a power level control. The amps is all solid state with the addition of a dual tube stage with 4 switches, 2 change the pre-amp response (brite /fat) and two change the "power amp" response (Sag/Bias). These are basically all analog amps with digital effects (3) built in. ![]() As many of you may be aware VOX has a relatively new series called the AV series of amps.
